There are millions of people around the world who regularly create content specifically for Youtube. Many of them create content that’s every bit as watchable as anything out of Hollywood.
Here are my top five favorite Youtube channels. For the sake of the list, I’m only including people that basically only create and distribute their content for Youtube, so no celebrities (unless their celebrity comes from Youtube), no companies, and I’m not including any political news channels.
So let’s dive in!
Kara and Nate
Kara and Nate started their Youtube channel five or so years ago when they embarked on what they said was supposed to have been one year of traveling around the world. But after the year was over, they just kept traveling and making videos. Eventually they made a goal of traveling to 100 countries, which they (lucky for them) achieved in early pre-pandemic 2020. I discovered their channel in about March 2020, as they were cutting short their stay on a tropical paradise island. They eventually made their way back to the states, bought a Sprinter van when they realized international travel would be out for a while, and started traveling the states for #vanlife.
Their recent videos include a six-day canoe trip to the boundary waters of Minnesota, a 450-mile bike ride across Iowa, and spending a day in a $650,000 over-land vehicle.
I think their videos are a perfect mixture of fun adventures, and beautiful and unique images. They include some realism – without either being whiny or over-the-top dramatic about events. They consistently release their videos on either Sunday or Wednesday. I’m always excited when I see they’ve released a new video.
TheMalibuArtist
Sharks have fascinated me ever since I was five years old and saw “Jaws” in the theater when it first came out. (Note, although I love that movie, and pretty much all shark movies, I do not recommend children that young seeing “Jaws,” either in a theater or on a TV screen).
TheMalibuArtist is a Southern California drone pilot who shoots breathtaking video footage over the coastline of the Pacific Ocean. The videos thus far show that sharks are not the blood thirsty monsters they’re made out to be in movies. He focuses mostly on finding great white sharks, but he spots lots of other marine life too. There are videos showing sharks, rays, dolphins. From up above the ocean, you can see everything, and it’s so beautiful. Many of the videos show how close sharks get to humans. In most cases, the shark moves away from people. Fascinating stuff.
Micarah Tewers
This talented woman’s channel features videos on a fairly wide range of topics. Micarah Tewers is a wonderful seamstress, and in many of the videos she recreates celebrity dresses, or creates outfits out of whatever fabric and items she has, or from thrifted items. She’s also bought a couple of RVs, done makeovers of them. She recently revealed that she has bought a house, and has done some makeovers to the home. She has a hilarious, quirky sense of humor, that makes me laugh.
Screen Rant
Screen Rant has videos about how movies are made, and various inside info about filmmaking. But I most enjoy (and watch) the channel’s Pitch Meeting videos. They feature movies and TV shows being “pitched” to the studio. Just watch them. They’re hilarious!
LegalEagle
The LegalEagle uses lawyer knowledge to dissect the legal aspects of various news topics, TV shows, and movies. There are videos where he explains what is and isn’t legally true on TV shows and movies. There are other videos where he explains what the legal aspects of news stories. The videos are entertaining and informative.
Nicki Positano
Nicki is an English woman who lives with her Italian husband in a house many steps from the closest road in beautiful Positano, Italy. On her Nicki Positano channel, she shows beautiful scenery from the area, plus what life is like to live on the side of a hill, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Oh yeah, and her dog goes just about everywhere with her and is adorable!
